Gas Fireplace design sounds as if it would mean that it has to be ultramodern when that really is not the case. You can find gas fireplaces in all shapes and styles that will fit into most any period of time.

One of the first things you need to be aware of is that the gas fireplaces come with the choice of two types of gas supply, which are either natural gas. You may not have the choice for natural gas if the lines are not available in your area. With propane, though you have the opportunity of having a fireplace.
Homes built today will mostly have gas fireplaces. The reasons are mostly for décor purposes. They do produce a fair amount of heat, which is great for taking the chill off the room as well as creating the illusion of a wood burning fireplace. New homebuilders are well aware of the benefits that the gas fireplace affords by increasing the purchase price as opposed to those that do not have them.

When you buy a home that already has the gas fireplace then you have rather missed the excitement of planning the one you would like to have had. This does not mean that you cannot change it but there is the extra cost involved.

If you do have the opportunity of planning your own then you are in for some enjoyable time although maybe a little stressful when you just cannot make a choice. To begin with, you will have most of the same options of colors, styles and materials that you have with a woodburning fireplace. One of the greatest benefits of the gas fireplace is how clean they burn which means you do not have the soot buildup as you would with wood burning fireplaces.

When it comes time to making your design, choices do not restrict yourself to ultra modern just because it is gas. The gas in any model or design looks extremely realistic. Often people with hesitate in having an antique style gas fireplace because they fear it will not be natural looking. The inserts create the look and feel of the burning logs in all models. The mantle and hearth is what creates the atmospheres of the time.

When choosing your model and design keep in mind the present décor time and then the space that you have available. It will not look natural if you try to put a large fireplace into a small space. Make your fireplace tie into your décor just as would any of your other furniture.

Pay attention to color as well, no matter what material you have chosen for your fireplace. Stay with neutral colors, as this will allow you to use any other colors in your room accessories that you choose without the worry of the colors of the room and fireplace being incompatible.
