Free Standing Fireplace |
A freestanding fireplace is the perfect answer for many décor problems. At one time, they use to be very expensive but now with the technology of less expensive materials they are not near as pricey. Many of them look very authentic and can be the perfect choice in some circumstances.
There are two types of freestanding fireplaces.
Style #1:
These are the fireplaces that are heat producing. Fireplaces not built into the wall are freestanding. It does not mean that you can move them about at least not without a lot of work. Most time they stay in one spot that is within the location of the chimney. The same fire precautions apply with these units as built in fireplaces. Some people believe that there is not much choice when it comes to style with the freestanding ones. This is not true at least not anymore. They have now gotten to the point where they can make quite a fashion statement. The most common styles are the traditional, country and contemporary or ultra modern. For heating purposes, they usually require wood or gas.
The materials that are most often used are cast iron, brass metal and stone although there are other mediums as well. Color choice is plentiful as is the finishing. There are a whole variety of add ons that can be obtained with these fireplaces, such as mantels, remote controls, door or windows for example.
Style #2:
These freestanding fireplaces are predominantly for décor. There are some though that will produce heat to the extent of what an average heater would. Many of them have a heater with a fan to circulate the air. These models often have the remote control with them. There are numerous shapes and styles along with colors from which to choose. The materials are most often-lightweight materials that mimic that of the real ones.
Naturally, the advantage of style #1 is the ability to use it for heat, and perhaps better able to locate it within a room. It also usually means a lot less preparation and installation.
With style #2, they are extremely versatile as to location. Almost any tiny free space can adequately accommodate one of these freestyle fireplaces. As far as being authentic looking some of them can fool the most avid fireplace lovers. With the artificial flames designed, the way they are you can almost feel the heat radiating from them.
Style #2 comes in a variety of styles. You can purchase them so they stand flush with the wall and one has to look closely to see that it is free standing. Alternatively, you can buy the ones that simulate the old potbelly type stoves that have been around for many years. No matter what choice you make with your freestanding fireplace you are sure to get many years of enjoyment from it.
