Fireplace tile design is not near as complicated as it sounds. Often people interested in fireplace design do not really give tile design much thought. Think of it though and look at the modern kitchens one see in the elite home décor magazines. It is the tiles in the kitchens that really make the room stand out. It is almost the first thing that catches the eye. Tiles in a fireplace can do the exact same thing.
You can always tell just how successful your fireplace is as a focal point. When the fire is blazing it naturally draws the person to it. If on the other hand, the fire is not active and yet the fireplace draws the eye or attention to it, then it has served its purpose as a focal point.
You can use the tiles to create the same era style, as you would do with any of the other materials used in their construction. You can do this with the type of tile, the color, shape and pattern.
Therefore, what is the best way to go about picking your tiles?
- I personally feel the color is one of the important issues. You need to decide on the color then think about one of the tile mediums that will give you the closest to the color you want. The reason I say this is that you may want to go with grays. Some materials produce a stronger solid shade of gray while others have a more opaque look.
- Next step is to choose your material. If color is not a big issue to you then you can do this step first and put color choice second. When it comes to materials, you may be surprised at the choice available to you. Tiles come in terra cotta and a whole variety of stone edge. In addition, you can find ones made from porcelain and glass and the well-known ceramic.
- Now, it comes time to plan the tile layout or design. The material and color you have chosen is going to guide you somewhat. You can go about this segment of your tiling two ways. You can devise your design first then go and pick the tiles that will work with it, or you pick your tiles then construct a design from them. If you really want to make it interesting take a look at doing it both ways before you make your final decision.
- You are going to be able to create all types of stunning effects with tiles. You could go with a plain tile then use some accent tiles to highlight it. The best place to get some great ideas is to look through magazines and go to home shows. Even visiting some new homes will give you some great ideas. Tile is not just for ultra modern styles. You are going to be pleasantly surprised to see that you can depict almost any era using tiles.
- Don’t forget about shapes either. You are not restricted to just the standard square shape.
