Fireplace ideas are in almost every home décor magazine or show. It is a great place to go and gather materials to help you with your decision-making, but its much more rewarding if you can add your own personal touch to it. Often people buying fireplaces do not realize that they can embellishment the fireplace themselves to make a statement.
Here are some steps to help you through choosing the perfect fireplace for you.
Step #1:
The first decision will be whether it is going to be a wood burning fireplace or an artificial one. If you are deciding to go with a fireplace to supplement your heating then you can of course choose the wood burning type or a gas model. Your can base part of your decision on step #2.
Step #2:
Most likely, you have decided on the room that is going to house the new fireplace. If it is a newly renovated room then you most likely have been able to plan the perfect place for it. On the other hand, if it is an established room then you may be somewhat restricted as to whether you can utilize a heat-producing fireplace. Otherwise, you may have to choose one for décor only. This will also dictate the size that you will be able to utilize.
Step #3:
Now were getting into the fun part and that is picking the actual design. This will be dependant on your décor and the atmosphere in your home. Is it Victorian, antique or ultra modern for example.
Step #4:
The decision-making has not ended. Your next choice will depend on the style within the era of your decor. In addition, there will be the decision of materials and colors available to you
Step #5:
When deciding on what you like best visualize the fireplace in three sections.
- The hearth
- The firebox
- The opening
You should be able to find variations in these three categories then make your choices from these.
We mentioned earlier that you could add your own personal touch to your fireplace. You can do this by having your mantle custom designed to your plans for example. Then there are the accessories, which are of your choosing, and this is where your creativity will show. Some of the accessories you may want to consider are your cleaning tools. These often come on a neat hanger in all types of materials and styles. Sometimes if you go to antique auctions, you can get some unique ones. This of course depends on the era of your fireplace. Then there are wood boxes and hearthrugs. Often people will add a personal touch by placing an ornament of some type beside the fireplace. An item such as a ceramic cat curled up fast asleep in front of the fire really adds a personal note to the overall décor of the fireplace. Then others with more ultra modern creativity will either make or purchase decorated fire screens to camouflage the fireplace during the warm months. Fireplace ideas are within your creativity and your likes and dislikes. You just need to afford yourself some time to decide what you really want and expect from your fireplace.
