Fireplace accessories are often taken for granted. When an individual buys a home where the fireplace is already there, its often not realized just what the extras or the accessories consist of. First of naturally it depends on the type of fireplace it is. If it is a real wood burning fireplace then the accessories will be different from those of those artificial ones.
Although with the established fireplace already having many of the accessories there are still some that can be purchased to add to the overall convenience of the real fireplaces. These would be firewood racks. Meant to hold the supply of firewood that is brought in for use. It keeps it clean and stacked rather than lying in a pile on the floor. In addition, it is a good safety feature as the wood can be confined away from the open flames. Log lighters are handy, it beats being on your hands and knees with a lighter trying to ignite the kindle wood. Log carriers are perfect for bringing the wood into the house. It saves a lot of time when you do not have to carry two or three logs at a time.
Almost a must if you are burning a real fireplace is a fire screen. It protects from sparks that can often occur with real wood burning.
Now if you have an artificial fireplace you can still use the same items as those talked about for a real wood burning fireplace. In this case, those it is primarily for show. Often your fireplace accessories tie in the theme of the fireplace. They can actually take away from the authenticity of the fireplace or enhance it. For example if you have a rustic fireplace and use ultra modern accessories, then the whole scene appears off balance. It well worth the while of giving a bit of thought to your accessories.
Now if you are putting in your own fireplace you may be a little shocked at the accessories that you almost have to have, then there is a list of optional ones as well. If it is going to be a real wood burning fireplace then you will needs damper pulls, log holds, bellows and fire screen or glass doors.
If you are installing an artificial fireplace then you are going to want those accessories that make the artificial one look more realistic. Even in the items have no constructive use they add to the atmosphere. One additional item you can use here more so than with a real fireplace is a hearthrug. With a real fireplace, there is the worry of a spark landing on it.
When choosing your fireplace accessories first make a list of what you would like to have. Then determine which style you need to fit the atmosphere or era of the fireplace. Then shop around and look for some bargains. You will often find these at department stores, particularity ones that sell artificial fireplaces. Then of course, you can check out stores that sell custom fireplaces as well. Many times, they have great prices on stock clearances.
