Faux fireplaces can be just the answer for that tight decorating budget. Your dream has always been to have a fireplace. You envision yourself curled up in a big armchair beside a crackling fire reading a good book. What you cannot envision is the putting out the amount of money to buy one no matter how small.

Well with a little creativity and just a few dollars, you can easily make your own faux fireplace. Some builders will tell you that they look just plain phony. That is not necessarily true, and besides if they serve the same purpose as a bought fireplace then it does not matter if it looks “homemade”.

Now for the exciting part and that is planning your fireplace. First step to decide is what room you will want it in Then what size space do you have for it. If you have, a few options that are great because then you can draft a few different designs.

You have to determine when drafting your plans what material you are going to use. The material really must fit in with the décor of the room. For example if you have ultra modern furniture and atmosphere then you are going to want more modern type materials. On the other hand, if your entire decor is antique or pioneer, then a brick or wood fireplace is going to look fantastic.
Now when it comes to style you are going to have many options and if you are bit, stuck for ideas, then look through some decorating magazines. It will not be long before your head is swimming with ideas. There is nothing to say that your faux fireplace can’t be fashioned after one of the designer types.

Now that you have an idea of what you want, let us look at the materials you can utilize. Remember you are on a tight budget so you want to use materials that are going to give you the look you want but keep your costs under control as well. Besides that’s half the challenge. You can use items such as brick paneling, faux bricks, moldings and plywood, and that’s just some examples.

You do not have to be an artist to accomplish this. Really, your faux fireplace is a realistic painting of a fireplace of your choice and style. Once you have completely painted or have your fireplace completed, you can take a simple small plank and attach it over the fireplace to create the mantle.

When the idea of creating your own fireplace first came to you the thought you may have had is that it just would not look right and even if it could be accomplished, it would not be by you. Now as you look back at your creation you have to admit that you did not do too badly at all. There may have been a few things you would have done differently if you were to start again. Who knows maybe there is just one more room waiting for an enchanting faux fireplace?
