Designer Fireplaces |
Having a designer fireplace is most intriguing because it is unique. I hope that you had the opportunity to design it yourself. If you are just in the process of planning one then you are going to have lots of fun. There are so many styles and materials that you can use for ideas that you certainly will not be limited in that regard. All you will require is some creativity and good imagination.
Just remember although you can be as creative as you want, if it is going to be in a home that you may resell someday, the fireplace must appeal to others. That does not mean you cannot be creative it just means you may have to be just a wee bit more conservative.
When we mentioned materials that were available we were referring to items, such as brick, marble, stainless steel, and cast iron just to name a few. Many items can be used as embellishments. Mosaic tiles are great for this. The skies the limit with what you can do with these little gems.
The design you plan and the material you choose to use will depend a lot on the style and atmosphere of your home. If you are building a log cabin, it is unlikely you are going to want to go to the contemporary type designer fireplaces. You will most want to likely stay with the more natural products like bricks or fieldstone. There have been some magnificent designer fireplaces made from fieldstone.
Do not forget when drafting your design for your designer fireplace that you are not necessarily restricted to one particular shape. You may want you fireplace to act as a room divider where the fire can be enjoyed from both sides. Another factor you want to consider as well is if you are going to have a mantle and if so the material and style as well.
If you are having your fireplace custom designed for you then no doubt the company you are dealing with will have some pictures of other work that they have done. You may be able to mix and match some of their designs to come up with something that is unique for you. Then you many find one that you really like and you want to make some modifications to it that should not be a problem either.
Often where we are talking about fireplaces we forget about the outdoor ones. They are really becoming popular in outdoor rooms. Again, you can design it or have it designed according to your particular atmosphere. It can be rustic, Victorian, or contemporary or a mix of all three if you choose. Remember when you are designing though that the focal point of any fireplace is the actual fire. Do not get carried away with your design to the point where it overpowers the fire itself.
Outdoor fireplaces are the one area that you can really let your imagination run wild if you choose to do so. Designer fireplaces of any type will most likely fit into this particular atmosphere.
